Whale Island Boat Salvage

The BRIEF

During heavy storms, the Brittany Ferry fleet was suspended in Portsmouth. During a reshuffle on the berths, one of the ferries drifted too close to the pontoons off Whale Island.

WORK UNDERTAKEN

RS Divers were contracted to salvage both the boats and the pontoon. The sunken vessels were chosen to be salvaged first, one of which had flipped onto its mast and was secured to one of the intact pontoons. Baker Trayte Marine aided with the salvage and the vessel was quickly stropped, raised and pumped out on the surface.

Following this, RS Divers went about locating the sunken pontoons. Once all were marked off, they were stropped and lifted onto a barge ready for repair.

THE RESULT

Unfortunately the boat was damaged beyond repair in the incident but the pontoons were successfully repaired and are now back in situ.

“RS Divers ability and experience shined throughout on this project. It was a difficult job that they made look simple. Well done guys.” Dave Baker, Baker Trayte Marine Ltd.
